In 2018,
I had a fraternity brother who was a highly experienced CPA and Attorney (he currently sits on the NC CPA Board). He mentored me for a while and one Saturday, as I explained how I planned to "...create something that would disrupt the CPA industry”, he looked at me and said, "You're going to do something special one day."

Now I’ve heard this before, but this time it was different.

Fast forward to 2022,
I had just left an incredible finance staff position at one of the largest churches in America and one of the executive leaders had seen “much potential” in me from the moment he met me.
I thought, “Maybe he’ll be open to meeting me once a quarter for mentoring.”
I asked. He agreed.
In our second meeting, sitting at Qdoba he told me something that’s stuck with me ever since -
“Your work in ministry isn’t ending, it’s just beginning.”
The last moment
I’m going to share with you was one of the hardest moments in my life.
It was around 3:00am, I was sitting in the NICU, holding my baby girl, trying not to fall asleep, sipping on a Red Bull (…I know, don’t judge me). The doctors had just refilled her feeding tube.
I looked around the room — eight babies, one parent: me.
I thought, "Someone has to do something about this." You see I overheard a conversation earlier that week and it rung through my head in that moment, “No, we won’t be coming back tonight - we both have to work.”
Now everyone hasn’t had that experience (in my wife and I’s case only 1 out of every 10,000 set of parents do, as our daughter had a rare condition) - yet the power of being present, while simultaneously facing the pressure of providing - is universal.
It's a tension that everyone has had to manage at one point in their life. Unfortunately, statistics reveal that tension plagues most people consistently throughout life.
So I decided to do something about it.

I’ve had so many people see something great when they look at me, yet everyday when I looked in the mirror I couldn’t figure out what they were seeing (and I'm sure you've had similar experiences - because we're all uniquely gifted).
Until one day I found out that when I look in the mirror I don’t see what others see, I see what I’m use to seeing - because a mirror doesn’t show you the perspective others see you from - it simply mirrors back the perspective you see everyday.
I realized that I needed to do something different, so I channeled a prior mantra:
Think inside the box.
I needed to acknowledge, understand and embrace my limitations - birthed from that was MyFinAP.
MyFinAp is a behavioral-finance technology
created to help people build a stronger relationship with their finances. As I reflect over the years of conversations I’ve had as a licensed CPA preparing taxes, conducting internal audits, providing accounting services, etc… - one topic commonly creeped into the conversation - managing the tension of being present and providing (not just financial provision, but also emotional provision).
MyFinAP is designed with simplicity and developed with psychology.
-
We are not another “budget tool” or expense tracker.
-
We don’t just tell you what you spent, because by that time it’s already too late.
-
We don’t hand you a blank canvas and make you create or manage your own budget, because you need the time to be present with the ones you love - and most importantly time to be present with yourself.
We take the time to get to know you. We gain an understanding of how you spend and begin decoding why you spend.
Subsequently, we provide personalized nudges and a progressive budget (that doesn't mirror where you've been, but reflects where you're going) in a no-clutter, hands-free environment. Because environment is everything.

As a people, we instinctively think that willpower and knowledge is what leads to accomplishing goals.
"So if you know better, you'll do better." This mindset is magnified with and embedded in most financial tools.
But the root of the gap between you and your goals is not laziness, busyness or ignorance - that's just a byproduct. It's the environment you consume everyday - on the surface and in the background.

In this environment
We minimize customization, so we can maximize clarity. And we set ourselves a part by embedding consumer psychology with consumer spending.
-
Because every dollar starts with a decision and every transaction begins with a thought.
So if you’re thinking it - make the decision and try MyFinAP today.
